A Primary School we work closely with in the Ossett (WF5) area of Wakefield are currently seeking to employ a 1-2-1 Support Assistant to start as soon as possible on a part-time basis for the foreseeable future. 

  • Do you have experience of supporting children on a 1-2-1 basis with additional needs?
  • Are you confident in working with young people with Learning Difficulties?
  • Are you available on a part-time basis?

If so then this could be the perfect role for you! 

This role is to work on a 1-2-1 basis with a child in Year 4 who has a Hearing Impairment. The child is working just below the National Expectations and your role will be to work with this child every morning from 9:00am - 11:00am Monday - Friday. The child needs assistance and ideally someone who is able to communicate without words using pictures and hand gestures. The child is very well behaved and academic and needs the support to help get him up to speed with his school work, particularly in Reading and Writing. 

This role is only for 2 hours per day in a morning from Monday - Friday and there is no scope of further hours with this role however, there may be the possibility for some afternoon work with Teaching Personnel on a supply (day to day) basis but, this is not guaranteed. Therefore candidates applying must be aware this is a 10 hour per week role spending 2 hours each week day in school with the child. 

What is requited from you

  • Teaching Assistant qualification, educational based degree or at least 6 months experience working with children or young people
  • Able to hold children's attention and focus with excellent communication skills
  • Can provide 2 references which can comment on your ability to work with children
  • Have a calm, nurturing approach with clear expectations
  • Be confident building positive relationships with pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to help them progress both socially and academically

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
