I joined Teaching Personnel in August 2016. Before then I was a Specialist SEN Learning Support Officer within the Bridgend Local Authority; where for over 8 years I worked within Specialist Resource Bases supporting children who have a wide range of additional learning needs including ASD, Cerebral Palsy & Challenging Behaviour.

Having the background, passion and keen interest in this field has enabled me to gain an excellent reputation with my client schools and credibility across candidates and clients alike. I have experienced first-hand the impacts of staffing issues while working as a SEN Support Officer on the cover staff, children and the school. This is a unique selling point for me as a consultant, a strength I use daily to advance the branch and one I will use continuously to help train new staff how to better understand their clients and candidates.

In my spare time, I am the Head Coach of a voluntary organised Disability Swimming Club the Bridgend Sharks, which I have been involved with for 17 years. In this time, we have helped over 100 children and young adults get into swimming, whether it is competitively or socially. I realise from being actively involved with many of our most vulnerable people how important extra curricular activities are for them. The majority of these people have spent the most of their life in the background wanting to achieve things but never being able to due to their disability or diagnosis. As Head Coach I co-ordinate and manage a team of volunteers who I specifically place with the children and young people to maximise their potential. In 2014, my efforts were recognised by the parents of the club by informing me that I was nominated for BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year 2014, Unsung Hero Award.

Another passion of mine is drumming for the Bridgend Big Band which is an swing band that gig regularly in jazz clubs across South Wales. Not only is it a great interest of mine but also I believe music is accessible for all – I have provided African Drumming Sessions for SEN classes which is something I am keen to bring to my conversations with client schools.
