Thousands of young people 'disappointed by university'

Many graduates are discovering that their qualifications are not going to help them climb the career ladder as much as they anticipated.

This is according to Tanya de Grunwald, founder of graduatefrog.co.uk, who said she is concerned by the government's "obsession" with encouraging huge numbers of young people to attend university.

"Already, hundreds of thousands of graduates are discovering that the promise that their degree would lead to a better career was a lie - and a growing number are saying that university was not a wise investment," she commented.

"And that's before tuition fees have kicked in. Every day there is a new story about what a mess the government's policy on higher education is.

Ms de Grunwald added that many of the students attending university today will struggle with debts for the rest of their lives.

Figures released last week by the Higher Education Funding Council of England revealed that many universities are expecting student numbers to drop now that the tuition fee cap has been lifted.
