Supply teachers will benefit from a new guidebook that has been published today by the Department for Education outlining updated policies on behaviour and classroom management.
Originally 600 pages long, the guide has been shortened to 52, after it was criticised for confusing teachers, making it difficult for them to implement its procedures in the classroom.
It is set to help teachers' behaviour management practices, detailing legal instances where reasonable force is acceptable.
Government expert advisor on behaviour Charlie Taylor said: "The new guidance will help teachers to be able to do their job without lessons being disrupted and schools to feel confident when they address behaviour issues."
The guidebook, which reflects feedback from teachers, their unions and local educational authorities, sets out the responsibilities for headteachers, governing bodies and teachers in matters of discipline and behaviour.
Its reform comes shortly after the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) consolidated over 150 pages of complex guidance to just eight pages.
The manual will be in use from the start of the new academic year in September.
