The Agency Workers Regulations stem from the EU Temporary Workers Directive 2008 which, after a period of 12 weeks of continuous work with the same hirer, gives agency workers the right to the same pay and other working conditions enjoyed by a hirer's own workers. The Agency Workers Regulations come into force in the UK on 1st October 2011.
Teaching Personnel, along with the other education recruitment companies, is awaiting guidance specifically related to the implementation of AWR within the education sector. Once this guidance has been published we will be in a position to start communicating details of our AWR management processes.
Our advice to school leaders and supply teachers at this time is to avoid committing to arrangements with agencies who may already be promoting an AWR scheme. Until the education sector guidance has been published, any such scheme could potentially have a negative impact on both schools and supply teachers.
If you would like more information on AWR, please download the ‘briefing for hirers' information published by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.
