Kent-based Hadlow College is proposing to open a free school next year.

The institution offers higher education courses in areas such as agriculture and animal management.

However, it hopes that buy opening a free school it can cater for pupils between the ages of 11 and 16, Kent News reports.

Vice principal Linda Brown told the publication: "We are excited about the opportunity of opening a free school to provide an innovative and engaging educational experience for young people interested in the rural agenda.

"The practical opportunities to enhance the traditional curriculum are enormous and it offers a chance for young people to experience 'hands on' learning in outdoor classrooms, making their education both meaningful and exciting and keeping them fully engaged in education."

Figures published last month by the Department for Education show that over 300 free school proposals have been received by the government so far.
