Those planning to enter higher education need to think more carefully than ever about their university options.

This is according to Steve Burford, founder of Wealthystudent.co.uk, said it is important to consider the financial implications of studying certain courses.

"No more are students going to be going to university for the sake of drinking themselves into a stupor for two-and-a-half years," he commented.

"Students are able to get loans from the Student Loans Company and there is advice at all universities via their student support in their student unions. We also offer a wide range of advice at Wealthystudent.co.uk."

According to a recent study carried out by Edge, more than half of middle income parents can no longer afford to fund their children's university education.

Of those surveyed, 31 per cent do not believe it is worth the investment, with 38 per cent claiming their child would have more success by gaining a vocational qualification.
