A school in Devon has unveiled a new wildlife pond as part of its bid to be recognised as an 'eco school'.

According to the South Devon Journal, the new facility was officially opened last week by Lady St German.

Sarah Marshall, headteacher at St Germans Primary School, said: "We are working towards our eco-school Green Flag and we were lucky enough to receive some funding from the Real Ideas Organisation which allowed us to devote some time to do some creative activities around the pond theme."

She noted that pupils have filmed and edited a documentary about the work the school has done.

Ms Marshall added that teachers are looking forward to using the pond to "enrich the curriculum".

In other Devon education news, a primary school in Barnstable was celebrating last week after a new outdoor play area was opened there, with highlights including a theatre area and camp fire zone.
