A group of schoolchildren from Devon are celebrating this week after winning a trip to Hong Kong.

Three pupils from Torquay Boys' Grammar school won a business plan writing competition run by Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Western Morning News reports.

The teenagers came up with the idea of developing high-tech flat screen systems for hotel rooms that enable guests to contact the reception desk, order room service and even check themselves out.

Nick Fieldhouse, head of business studies and economics at the school, told the news provider: "We are one of just two UK schools to win through to the semi-finals of the competition, and to be invited out to Hong Kong to represent the school is a considerable achievement for the students.

"The students will present their business plan to a judging panel and hope to win through to the final of the competition."

In other Devon education news, a new outdoor learning area was opened at Newport Community School this week, featuring everything from camp fires to theatre space.
