Devon pupils do fundraising coin trail for Japan

Pupils at one Devon primary school did their bit for charity this week when they raised money for victims of the Japanese earthquake.

Youngsters from Kentisbeare Primary School collected £337 by making a coin trail around the playground, the Western Morning News reports.

Headteacher Tracey Hailey said the school is extremely proud of everyone who was involved.

"The coin trail also continued through the village and our parents have once again showed their generosity by baking goodies for a huge bring and buy cake sale in the village," she commented.

"Our children were very concerned about what they had seen on the news following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan."

The money will be handed over the Shelterbox charity, which provides essential supplies for those affected by natural disasters.

In other Devon education news, St James School in Exeter is celebrating this week after being presented with an award for being one of the most improved schools in the country.
