Almost 700 new primary school places are to be created in Stoke-on-Trent, it has been revealed.

According to the Sentinel, £5 million is being spent to create 25 new classrooms across seven schools.

More than 100 new places are being created at Oakhill Primary, with mother-of-two Kirsty Dicken describing the expansion plan as "great".

"My three-year-old daughter Ellie-Mai Williams is in the nursery but there are so many children in her class that they are split into two groups in classrooms and a third group in a seating area in the corridor," she told the newspaper.

"The school definitely needs some extra room."

Other schools which are to be expanded include Waterside Primary, Crescent Primary and New Ford Primary, which will boast four extra classrooms, as well as new toilets and more office space.

In other Stoke education news, pupils at Packmoor Primary School enjoyed a visit from actor Alan Barrett as part of its World Book Day celebrations.
