Youngsters from on Scarborough school were given the opportunity to spend an exciting day at the offices of their local newspaper this week.

Year Three and Year Four pupils from Hinderwell School spent a day with reporters from the Scarborough Evening News, learning about the paper's role in the community.

Highlights included a talk from education reporter Steven Hugill and head of digital Adam Meads.

Pupils were shown how reports are compiled and even took part in a shorthand lesson.

Teacher Michaela White, who helped to organised the day, commented: "It was a fantastic experience for the children and they really enjoyed learning about the shorthand.

"They were also interested about how reporters have to work really late sometimes to cover stories on a night for the next day's newspaper."

In other Scarborough education news, pupils from Wheatcroft Primary School were celebrating this week after raising more than £200 for the Shelterbox Trust.
