A group of Year 11 students from Coombeshead College in Devon have revealed how a trip to Poland opened their eyes to the atrocities carried out by Nazi troops during WWII.
The youngsters took part in a four-day excursion alongside history teacher Sarah Dornan, the Express and Echo reports.
As well as visiting former concentration and extermination camps, the pupils explored Krakow and the Wieliczka Salt Mine.
"I think that running the trip to Krakow is a real privilege," Ms Dornan told the newspaper.
"I get to see the students' shoulders straighten as they learn about themselves through this hard-hitting experience.
"I think you can see by the end of the trip that we've all grown a little."
In other Devon education news, pupils from Eggbuckland Community College are preparing to carry out a world record attempt next month for the most people dancing the Macarena at the same time.
