Pupils from one Derbyshire school have been given the opportunity to name a new housing estate.

Construction company Davidsons invited students to submit names for the new development, which is located beside their school, the Derbyshire Telegraph reports.

Grange Meadows was selected as the winning name, after being suggested by pupils Sean Spacey and Caitlin Bell.

Stephanie King, head of sales at Davidsons, told the newspaper: "The school has been wonderful to work with.

"It's part of the Davidsons philosophy to make any development an integral part of the local area and this is a great way to get involved."

Part of the new estate is to be used as a playing field by the children.

In other Derbyshire school news, pupils from Trent College in Long Eaton were last week given the opportunity to meet a Russian scientist who was involved in the country's space programme.
