Children at one East Riding school enjoyed a special visit this week.
Paratroopers from the 299 Royal Engineers dropped in on youngsters at Cottingham Coxby Primary School to say thank you after pupils posted parcels to the Afghan frontline last year, the East Riding Mail reports.
Pupil Charlie Blakey described the visit as "ace", adding that he enjoyed being shown how to do a parachute roll.
School principal David Ledgard said it was nice for the pupils to see the end product of all their hard work.
"[Pupils sent] combs, toiletries, wet wipes and boiled sweets – just little things to remind them of home," he told the newspaper.
"We felt it was important soldiers do not feel forgotten about. Often, they do a thankless task."
In related news, students at Cottingham Coxby Primary School also hit the headlines this week after they scooped an award.
The school beat off stiff competition to be named as the Sustainable Travel School of the Year.
