A group of lucky students from Stoke-on-Trent are travelling to South Africa this week as part of an 11-day charity trip.

The group from Stoke-on-Trent College will be learning about the country's culture and handing out sports equipment to schoolchildren, the Sentinel reports.

The trip has been arranged with the Challenge South Africa programme and the Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation.

"The trip is a brilliant opportunity for our students to work together towards something they care about," said school learning coordinator Calvin Austin.

"They have all shown great enthusiasm and commitment to raising the necessary funds."

Student Demi Fox told the newspaper that she is grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

In other Staffordshire education news, Walton High School is set to host a community science day next week, inviting members of the public to take part in everything from maths challenges to experiments.ADNFCR-2164-ID-800403854-ADNFCR
