Devon's largest school could be set to convert to academy status this year.

Governors at Exmouth Community College have entered a period of consultation before deciding whether or not to give the go ahead.

According to the South Devon Journal, parents will have the chance to voice their opinion over the coming weeks.

Some of the schools that have already turned into academies in the area include Uffculme School and Broadclyst Primary School.

Tony Alexander, principal at Exmouth Community College, told the newspaper: "We are committed to every child's education in our catchment area.

"We believe that academy status is an excellent opportunity to build on and maintain the outstanding education that is provided at the college and develop further the opportunities for all of our students."

Some of the benefits of becoming an academy include having access to more funding and greater flexibility with the curriculum.
