Welsh local authorities are continuing to spend less per pupil than their English counterparts, it has been revealed.
Figures from the Welsh Assembly Government show that the gap has widened over the last year, Wales Online reports.
Councils in Wales spend an average of £604 less now, compared to £527 less last year.
Dr Philip Dixon, director of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers Cymru, said the statistics are "shocking".
"Some pundits were predicting the gap would widen but not this much. I think to have reached the £600 mark is psychologically significant," he told the news provider.
"People will say we are not comparing like for like but nevertheless this gap is real and is being felt by teachers in crumbling buildings and with a lack of resources.
"I hope this represents the low point. We have to begin to turn this around from here."
Meanwhile, Plaid Cymru has called for the six week holidays to be scrapped and spread evenly throughout the year.
The party's education spokesperson said the current holiday system is not as effective as it could be.
