British companies are beginning to recruit at schools and colleges in order to snap up the most promising students, it has been revealed.
A study carried out by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) found that a quarter of businesses now recruit new employees in this way.
Furthermore, it was found that a fifth of other companies are considering recruiting at schools and colleges in the future.
According to the AGR, graduate employment prospects are likely to improve this year as businesses begin to recover after the economic downturn.
AGR chief executive Carl Gilleard explained: "What tended to happen in the past [recessions] is that employers put the brakes on, and only took their foot off a year or two later. Then they found they didn't have the talent in their organisation to cope with growth. I think that was an important lesson that a lot of employers learned."
Speaking earlier this month, Dan Hawes, co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau, said university leavers can improve their chance of getting a job by doing internships and work experience placements while they are studying.
