Children at one Staffordshire primary school took part in an exciting hands-on history lesson earlier this week, discovering what life would have been like for pupils studying during Victorian times.

Students from Springhead Primary School in Talke Pits wore traditional outfits from the era and swapped their modern pens and notebooks for slates and slate pencils, The Sentinel reports.

"The children enjoyed the morning and learned far more about the Victorian schools and what it was like for Victorian children because they had to experience if for themselves," teacher Jan Anderson told the newspaper.

Youngsters were also taught about Victorian manners and values.

In other Staffordshire education news, students at Painsley Catholic College in Cheadle took a break from regular classes last week to spend a day focusing on citizenship education.

Students took part in special activity sessions and covered issues such as drug trafficking and misuse.
