Specialist teaching jobs on offer at new centre

The opening of a new school in Wales will create opportunities for those in education jobs to gain a more challenging experience at work.

Situated in Newtown, the Pathway Education Centre will host children who are considered school-phobic and cannot be taught in mainstream education, the BBC reports.

The centre will also welcome children whose behaviour is too disruptive for them to be placed within traditional educational structures.

In addition, the facility - which has cost an estimated £340,000 - will teach pupils with special medical needs which cannot be catered for in a regular school.

David Jones, a local councillor in Powys, said: "I'm delighted that this new facility will help re-engage pupils into positive and productive education and, where appropriate, their re-integration back into mainstream education."

The Guardian reported this week that the coalition government is planning to abolish the appeals panel system that allows parents to present a counter-case if their child is permanently excluded from school.
