A pay deal agreed by the Labour government for those in teaching jobs will be maintained by the coalition administration.
The agreement, recommended by the School Teachers' Review Body (STRB), gave employees in education jobs a guaranteed annual pay rise over three years, starting in 2008.
Under this deal, the final salary increase of 2.3 per cent is due to be implemented this September.
Education secretary Michael Gove said the government would be "honouring in full" the planned rise.
"I can therefore confirm that the teachers' pay uplift for this year will be implemented from September 2010, marking the last instalment of their three-year pay award," he wrote in a letter to MPs.
The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) welcomed the announcement.
Martin Freedman, head of pay, conditions and pensions at ATL, said the union was pleased the government had decided to stick to the recommendations of the STRB.
