Training facility 'could provide 200 teaching jobs'

A new facility in Lincoln could mean the creation of around 200 new jobs in education for the area.

The plan by Lincolnshire County Council is to convert a former school into a teacher training centre, with the creation of 45 full-time positions, reports the Lincolnshire Echo.

In addition, around 150 part-time roles will also be established at the site, which will replace the old Myle Cross School, which closed in 2008 after merging with St Giles Infants to become Chad Varah School.

If planning permission can be achieved, the centre will train teachers, classroom assistants and governors.

Project executive Jez Bailey said the plan was a good example of using old buildings.

"Subject to successful approval, work is expected to start this summer and the centre is expected to open in January next year," he said.

A Guardian poll of teachers released on Monday (June 14th) indicated that extra training was the area where most respondents felt extra investment was required.
