Primary schools in Sheffield are set to share a pot of £13.8 million as part of an expansion drive to deal with the city's rising birth rate, a local news report has said.

According to The Star, the government grants come as a response to a 20 per cent surge in the number of newborn children, in news that might be of interest to those in teaching jobs.

A spokesperson for Sheffield council named the areas that will benefit from the extra funding.

"While some areas can cope with the increase within existing primary school capacity, there are six areas which will require expansion. These are Netherthorpe, Meersbrook, South Sheffield, Southey Green, Mosborough and South-West Sheffield," he was quoted as saying by the publication.

In other news, the merger of Wedderburn infant and nursery school and Woodlands community junior school in Harrogate has been approved by local authorities, according to the BBC.
