Campaign urges school to sign up to dyslexia training for teachers

A charity has launched a new campaign calling on schools to enrol on a government-funded specialist training course in dyslexia for staff in teaching jobs.

The See the Difference campaign, which has been launched by the Dyslexia and Special Learning Difficulties Trust, wants schools to make the most of the training available for 4,000 teachers, which will equip them with specialist skills to help support pupils struggling to learn.

According to the campaign, the government is providing £10 million to train staff in teaching jobs to become Dyslexia-SpLD specialists. The grant is available only for a limited time, with the deadline for teachers wanting to take up the course being March 2011.

In other news, funding of £4 million has been made available to train staff in teaching jobs responsible for children with special educational needs.

The move, which forms part of a series of reforms designed to improve the experiences of students with learning disabilities, came after a review into special needs support in England found widespread dissatisfaction with education services among parents of SEN pupils.
