Staff in teaching jobs from north Devon have flown to the US to show local teachers how the subject of geography is being taught at English schools, a local news report has said.

According to the North Devon Journal, a group of 12 teachers visited Nevada's Clark county, taking classes with local pupils and carrying out fieldwork in areas such as the Nevada Desert.

The purpose of the trip, which was organised by the British Council, was to have the English secondary teachers share their knowledge and skills with members of the Nevada State Geographic Alliance.

"The study visit proved to be immensely successful due to the participants and their determination to take advantage of every opportunity to further their professional expertise," David Weatherly, from Devon learning and development partnership, was quoted as saying by the publication.

In other news, Mill Water, a special needs school in Devon, has received the prestigious gold award for singing from Sing Up!, according to the Express and Echo.
