Michael Gove, the person behind the Tories' policy to allow parents to create their own education institutions, called free schools, has been appointed schools secretary in the new government.
The MP for Surrey Heath, 42, has been the shadow secretary of state for children, schools and families since 2007.
According to the Guardian, Gove has adopted a tougher stance on teacher training by saying that people should not be in
teaching jobs unless they have a 2:2 degree.
Christine Blower, general secretary of the National Union of Teachers (NUT), congratulated Mr Gove for his appointment and said that she would be seeking an early meeting with him to "establish a constructive working relationship".
She added: "While the NUT has had a number of policy differences with the Conservatives, particularly over 'free schools', Michael Gove has always been open to discussion with the union about his plans."
In other news, the Tories have said that students from disadvantaged backgrounds should be able to attend school lessons on Saturdays, according to the BBC.
