Staff in teaching jobs from Wirral raised thousands of pounds for charity by running last Sunday's London Marathon, a local news report has said.

According to the Wirral News, head teacher of Prenton high school for girls Paula Dixon was joined by the school's deputy head Lisa Ayling and PE teacher Debbie Hughes in the event, raising more than £5,000 for national deaf and blindness charity Sense.

Nicky McWhannell, a PE teacher at Weatherhead high school in Wallasey, also took part in the 26-mile course, the publication said.

Before the race the education staff set up a charity auction at the school, amassing over £3,500 for their chosen cause.

In other news, Pont, a charity working to establish links between Rhondda Cynon Taff and Uganda, arranged for a primary teacher to fly from South Wales to the African country as part of a drive to bolster relationships between sister schools, Wales Online has said.
