Healthy Planet is offering free lesson plans to all primary teachers across the UK as part of a drive to celebrate Earth Day.

The lesson plans, which are designed by a team of top staff in teaching jobs, will see year one to year six primary teachers educate children about the importance of trees and recycling.

The one-hour long, interactive and fun lesson plan reflects the national curriculum goals set for each age group, according to Healthy Planet.

"Students will engage in the concept of Earth Day in a relevant and age appropriate way by learning about the importance of trees, understanding what a carbon footprint is, or evaluating the importance of recycling," said Liz Ryan, year two and six teacher.

In other news, the Food Standards Agency and Platinum Films have teamed up to launch PlanetCookClub.com, a new web-based resource that could help primary teachers educate pupils about the benefits of healthy food.
