A primary teacher has travelled from South Wales to Uganda in a bid to bolster relationships between sister schools, a local news report has said.

Diane Williams, from Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Aberdar in the Cynon Valley, flew to Mbale to meet pupils at Bumalunda primary school, carrying textbooks, posters and other everyday items that youngsters in Wales take for granted, according to Wales Online.

"Teachers and children welcomed me with open arms – they were all so pleased to see a visitor from Wales and each one showed a huge interest," Ms Williams, who was accompanied by 13 other education providers in her trip, was quoted as saying by the publication.

The schools' partnership was arranged by Pont, a charity working to establish links between Rhondda Cynon Taff and Uganda.

In other news, Anne Keane has been named the new chief inspector of education and training in Wales, education watchdog Estyn has confirmed.
