Teacher jobs 'could be affected' by schools shift

Moving quickly to turn failing schools into academies could have a negative effect on education, a union has claimed.

According to education union Voice, any plans to change schools into academies should not be rushed.

General secretary at the union Philip Parkin said that The Conservatives' plans for a quicker transformation to the academy model may be unnecessary.

"There is no reason for a headlong rush to transform schools into academies, as this could be damaging to children's education in the short and medium term," he said.

Other changes suggested by the Conservatives include changes to the Ofsted inspection regime. Such changes could see those with teaching jobs at the country's top institutions receive fewer inspections than those who are teaching at other schools across the country.

Mr Parkin argued that schools in areas of the country that are failing need to have the support of the government and the local community, as well as those in teaching jobs, in order to turn them around.
