Leave learning to teachers, ATL tells politicians

Lesley Ward, the president of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), has urged the country's politicians to leave education alone and stop using it as a political football.

Speaking at the union's annual conference in Manchester, Ms Ward said that education has stuck on a merry-go-round, with the same policies and debates being repeated over and over again.

According to Ms Ward, learning should be left to in the hands of those in teaching jobs.
 
"So, who should the new government really be listening to? It's us. It's the teachers. It's the support staff. It's the lecturers. Trust us and leave us to do our job", she said.
 
In related news, ATL has asked political parties to trust the judgement of teachers when it comes to issues relating to assessment and curriculum, in news which may affect those in teaching jobs.  

The group argued that politicians should listen more to education professionals if they want the quality of learning to be improved.
