The regulation of
teaching jobs in Wales has been handed to a new chief inspector, education watchdog Estyn has confirmed.
Anne Keane has been appointed as the country's Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales, succeeding outgoing inspector Dr Bill Maxwell, who has resigned the post in favour of a new position as Senior Chief Inspector for schools in Scotland.
Ms Keane said: "I am confident that Estyn is in a strong position to drive forward the good work that Dr Maxwell accomplished during his leadership."
She added that one of her top priorities within her new role would be to promote "collaboration between the Assembly Government, local authorities and the education providers themselves".
Ms Keane has worked for Estyn since 1984 and has previously served as Strategic Director and Head of Directorate.
Estyn is the regulatory and inspectorate body responsible for the independent inspection of schools in Wales.
