Gove plans changes to secondary teacher course content

Secondary teachers may have to adjust to new course content in some A-Levels if the Conservative Party wins the next general election.

Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families Michael Gove has confirmed that the Tories would overhaul current maths, science and English teaching at A-Level, allowing universities and academic experts to dictate course content.

Mr Gove said: "The individuals with the keenest interest in ensuring A-levels require the depth of knowledge necessary to flourish at university are our teaching academics.

"So we will take control of the A-level syllabus and question-setting process out of the hands of bureaucrats and instead empower universities."

He added that in addition to allowing pupils to study all three main science subjects, the Conservatives would also re-introduce disciplines such as algebra and geometry into maths tests for 11-year-olds.

Mr Gove recently claimed his Party's planned 'free schools' scheme would lead those in teaching jobs and parental roles to join forces to create a more "idealistic" approach to learning.
