The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has presented a new interactive web-based education resource that could help primary teachers educate pupils about the benefits of healthy food.

PlanetCookClub.com, which is being launched in conjunction with Platinum Films, aims to help children aged seven to nine years learn how to select, cook and eat safe, healthy food, both at school and at home.

The online resource, which is based on the FSA's food competences and inspired by the Channel 4 television programme Planet Cook, includes an area for primary teachers that contains lesson plans, video clips, interactive elements and curriculum links.

It also features a colourful game area for pupils to explore which the agency hopes will boost the entire learning experience.

The lesson plans examine all aspects of food, including balanced diets, nutrition and health, as well as buying, handling and cooking food safely.

In other news, primary teachers in Portsmouth are using breakfast packs to inform students about the benefits of healthy eating, according to the Portsmouth News.
