Teaching jobs decided by pupils in Leyland school

Bosses at a Leyland school have adopted a revolutionary education recruitment process, by inviting pupils to have a say in hiring teachers, according to a local news report.

Students at Wellfield Business and Enterprise College, Yewlands are being allowed to directly interview some potential teachers, advise on education techniques and report on lessons.

Those seeking teaching jobs at the school must also participate in mock lessons, the Lancashire Evening Post has reported.

Head teacher Piers Tolson, who was also grilled by a group of pupils before he got the job two years ago, said the "dictatorial-style of teaching" is not compatible today.

"The old fashioned approach to schooling has got to go. We think it is extremely important to break down the formal barriers and give pupils a voice in how things are run," he said.

In other news, two primary schools in Plymouth will have a new executive head teacher when the school year starts in September, according to the Herald.
