North West teachers urged to sign up for new masters

The Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) has called all eligible new teachers in the North West to enrol on the masters in teaching and learning course.

So far, more than 1,000 newly qualified teachers in the UK have signed up for the new government-funded programme in the region, worth £30.9 million.

Primary and secondary teachers who started working in local schools this year have until 23rd April 2010 to enrol on the programme, which will see them trained and qualified to masters level.

Graham Holley, chief executive at the TDA, described the scheme as "an excellent opportunity for new teachers to equip themselves with the necessary skills to thrive in the classroom, giving them the best possible start in the profession and directly benefiting the pupils with whom they work".

In other news, an 81-year-old caretaker from a Pendle village is organising an exhibition to mark the centenary of her small school, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.
