Staff in
teaching jobs at some of England's top-ranked state schools would see an end to Ofsted inspections under a Conservative government, it has been claimed.
According to Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families Michael Gove, a Tory government would exempt high-flying schools from inspections by the official education watchdog, unless results began to slide.
Mr Gove said: "We will immediately change the law so that we can set hundreds of good schools free from political interference."
Schools which would qualify for the Ofsted exemption would have a prior record of having both staff in teacher jobs and overall facilities rated as 'outstanding' by the education watchdog, according to the Guardian.
However, Schools Secretary Ed Balls told the newspaper the Ofsted system has already been reformed so that top-rated schools are not inspected as often as those doing less well.
Mr Gove represents the constituency of Surrey Heath.
