A leading union for education professionals has welcomed aspects of a new report into
teaching jobs in England.
The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) called a recommendation that all teachers should have equal access to professional development funding by the House of Commons Select Committee for Children, Schools and Families "laudable".
Dr Mary Bousted, general secretary of the organisation, said: "[ATL] fully supports the need for this to be an everyday part of teachers' work and welcomes the committee's endorsement.
"Today's new teachers are widely recognised as the best there have ever been in their ability to teach high quality lessons."
She added that a further recommendation that Ofsted should relax regulations at teacher training institutions would "encourage more innovation" in the sector.
However, the union has expressed concern at the report's proposal that students should be required to have a minimum 2:2 level undergraduate degree qualification in order to train as teachers.
