The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has launched a new scheme which will see lawyers try their hand at
teaching jobs as they endeavour to educate pupils in the letter of the law.
Participating lawyers will take on teaching jobs for a day as they deliver a new part of the national curriculum's citizenship module to pupils in England and Wales, following a successful pilot of the initiative in Derbyshire last year.
Keir Starmer QC, Director of Public Prosecutions, told Children and Young People Now: "This programme has been successfully delivered in a number of schools.
"It has proven to be a great way of ensuring that young people better understand how our criminal justice system works and it is clear that the students have really enjoyed the role-playing aspect."
The legal lessons will see classrooms converted into courtrooms for the day to help children gain an understanding of legal processes, with pupils taking on the roles of lawyers, judges and jurors.
Mr Starmer has been head of the CPS since November 2008.
