Education professionals taking up
teaching jobs in London are to be trained to spot potential terrorists by one local council.
Waltham Forest Council has announced that it will implement specialised training for all those in education teaching jobs in the borough, which will help teachers' spot extremist attitudes that may later develop into hate-inspired action.
Rachel Macfarlane, head of Walthamstow School for Girls, told This Is London the course involves "training staff and students to be aware of indicators of potentially extremist attitudes and what to do if you have any concerns about young people in your […] school who you think might be susceptible to being indoctrinated".
The council's Learning Together To Be Safe initiative will cover al Qaeda, the BNP, Republican terror groups and animal rights extremists, according to the newspaper.
Waltham Forest Council is the local education authority for 88 nursery, primary, secondary and
special needs education institutions in the borough.
