A government plan to introduce report cards for individual schools is splitting opinions among those in teacher jobs, a new study has concluded.
Research by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) for its latest Teacher Omnibus survey found that 30 per cent of staff in education jobs supported the initiative, while 37 per cent said they were opposed to the move.
The NFER's Sarah Maughan commented: "With roughly a third of teachers being unsure about the SRC, it's clear that the DCSF [Department of Children, Schools and Families] needs to give them more information about this significant change in reporting schools' achievements."
A Bill proposing the introduction of the new school report card is currently making its way through parliament, with a view to implementing it in time for the 2011-12 school year.
