Primary teachers may be feeling popular after a new study revealed the vast majority of parents are successful in securing their first choice school for their child.
Researchers from London University's Institute of Education examined data from the Millennium Cohort Study of 15,000 UK pupils and found that 88 per cent of parents had listed the institution their child ended up in as their top state school selection.
Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families Dawn Primarolo said: "The overall picture on school choice is very positive.
"Even based on the Millennium Cohort researchers' own figures, nearly nine out of 10 parents are getting their first choice primary school."
However, the researchers also found that between four and seven per cent of parents surveyed had listed a school they thought their child was more likely to get into over their preferred institution.
The original Millennium Cohort Study was conducted by the Centre for Longitudinal Studies.
