Students at one Devon college had the opportunity to visit the headquarters of the Met Office earlier this week.

According to the South Devon Journal, 30 geography pupils from Newton Abbot College travelled to Exeter for a "fun forecasting day".

Student Jordan Brookes told the newspaper that the outing began with a talk about extreme weather and climate change, before pupils were told how the weather is predicted.

"The trip was informative and the part students enjoyed the most was when they had the opportunity to look at the equipment used to monitor and record the weather," he added.

Fellow pupil Heidi Brooking said she enjoyed the trip and believes that other pupils should have the opportunity to go in future.

"On a trip you get more information that adds to what we are learning in class," she commented.

British schoolchildren were impacted directly by the weather last week when heavy snow and ice forced a quarter of schools to close.
