A primary school in Devon has been honoured with an international award.

St Michael's Church of England Primary School in Kingsteignton has been handed the International school Award by the British Council, in recognition of its efforts in broadening pupils' cultural knowledge, the South Devon Journal reports.

"Each class at the school focuses on a different country throughout the year.

"The award is for our efforts to broaden the children's knowledge of local, national and international cultures and how these can affect our lives," said teacher Becky Drewitt.

She added that the school worked extremely hard to secure the award and are "very proud".

In other south-west education news, two pupils from the Mayflower Community School in Plymouth were recently given the opportunity to test out their broadcasting skills by presenting a slot on hospital radio.

The eight-year-olds had a one-hour slot and entertained patients with interesting facts and jokes.
