Faith school education jobs receive Tory backing

Teachers seeking education recruitment in the faith school sector have received the backing of Conservative Leader David Cameron.

Mr Cameron, whose daughter Nancy, 6, attends a Church of England School, has claimed a Tory government would support the biggest expansion of faith schools since the 19th century, in a move which may create additional teaching jobs within the sector.

The opposition leader told the Daily Mail: "I support faith schools. I think they have a lot to bring to education.

"Faith schools often bring a culture and an ethos to a school that can help them improve. I'm a supporter politically and personally."

Under the Tory plans, faith groups, businesses and charities would be able to apply for public funding to establish and operate new school institutions and recruit staff to fill education jobs.

Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs David Miliband MP recently attracted criticism from Conservative ministers after electing to send his son to a Church of England school despite previously declaring himself atheist.
