According to the Croydon Guardian, Brookfield Primary School in Sutton was rated as "outstanding" for its travel plan in a review by Transport for London (TfL).

Samantha Bowry, the school’s deputy headteacher, told the newspaper: "We always participate in Walk to School Weeks and we promote walking and cycling by holding annual Big Breakfasts for pupils."

She said a particular success had been the pupils' participation in cycling schemes, eventually leading to a win at the Sutton Cycling Championships.

Despite it being the first time the school had entered, those children taking part walked away with first prize and a trip for their whole year to a nearby velodrome.

Overseen by the South and West London Transport Conference, the school's local area won TfL's Smarter Travel Award for the Best Sub Region for having the highest number of eco-travel plans.
