According to local reports, as Bristol children return to school for the start of the new academic year, 30 heads take on new roles in the city's primaries.

This is Bristol claims that 21 of the new appointments were from deputies or headteachers already working in the city.

One of the youngest is 38-year-old Richard Riordan, who has taken over at Cabot Primary in St Paul's.

Mr Riordan told the local news source he chose the school after his experience working in east London: "I believe very strongly in the quality of opportunity people get. I think that what you get in multicultural schools is a vibrancy and energy which is great."

"I want to make sure that those children have the same experiences and expectations and life chances as all other children, so that they can choose their future," he added.
