A special graduation ceremony has been given to teaching assistants in Cardiff to recognise their achievements.

The South Wales Echo reports that the city council's chief schools and lifelong learning officer Chris Jones presented 40 certificates to the newly-qualified assistants.

According to the paper, many of those graduating had undertaken several years of classroom work before embarking on intensive training with learning provider Schools Assist.

The course undertaken by the teaching assistants is described as a combination of hands-on workshops, professional assessments and technical training by Schools Assist.

Meanwhile in Worcester, a local woman has realised a 45-year-long dream after achieving a degree in education.

Dawn Lucas told the Worcester Journal that she was "thrilled to bits" following a career-move from sales to teaching.

"My degree means so much to me - I've finally proven to myself that I am academically capable of achieving this level of education," she added.
