School staff praised as A-levels hit new record

School staff are celebrating today (August 20th) after helping their students achieve record A-level results, it has been revealed.

Figures have shown that 26.7 per cent of entries in England were awarded the top A grade, while the overall pass rate increased by 0.3 percentage points to reach a new record high of 97.5 per cent.

The efforts of school staff in achieving the results have been hailed by Jim Sinclair, director of the Joint Council for Qualifications.

"These are excellent results," he said.

Mr Sinclair continued: "They are the outcome of hard work of students and teachers, who deserve to be congratulated."

The figures mean there is likely to be a surge in the number of students attending university this year, something the government had already anticipated.

With more people getting top grades at A-level and applying to university, the government recently announced it would offer partial funding for 10,000 extra places in "priority" subjects such as the sciences, maths and technology.
